All Right Here?

Having recently moved from the UK to South East Asia, a lot of people have asked me: "So, what's it like, then?" This is my attempt to answer that question.

Communication With A Celebrity - Not By Proxy!

Kris Marshall (erstwhile star of My Family, Murder City and, fantastically, Love, Actually) update! If you haven't read the first encounter, click on the link above so that this makes sense.

Today I was speaking to Ella as she was escorting him from somewhere to somewhere else while they were filming. I was telling her to get him to check this site, as he’d love the entry about him, because it’s very complimentary. Imagine my joy as I heard her say,
“Do you want to speak to him, Kris?”

In the background, I heard him say,
“Is that your feller?”

Next thing I know I’m talking to the man himself!

“Hi there,” he began.

Such a great start! What a top bloke!

“Hi,” I replied, suddenly shaking. “How are you?”

I kicked myself. I sounded like a star struck idiot.

“Good, thanks,” he replied. “I’m looking after Ella for you.”

I wasn’t sure I liked the way he said “looking after”.

I heard him ask Ella if I was abroad, and her reply in the affirmative. My heart sank a little as I realised that, despite Ella’s efforts to encourage him to comment on this site, he barely even knew who I was.

“Are you abroad?” he asked me.
“Yes,” I replied. “Singapore.”
“Ah,” he remarked, knowingly. “I know some great bars in Singapore. Red Hot Ladies (his capitals)."
“Ah,” I replied. There is at least one such notorious bar here. “You must mean Four Floors. Not been myself. Not really my scene.”

It was clear to me that, after I’d said that, he removed the phone from his ear and looked at it with disdain. He said:

“Right, here’s Ella again.”

I was about to ask him how tall he was.

Hey - you done good. Could have gone a lot worse than that. Just be sure to tell him about the cockroach next time, and you'll be away.
