All Right Here?

Having recently moved from the UK to South East Asia, a lot of people have asked me: "So, what's it like, then?" This is my attempt to answer that question.

Moving Too Fast

I can't keep up with life at the moment. I start writing about something for this blog that's about to happen, or that might happen in a while, then it happens before I finish writing about it. I then either have to rejig what I've written or scrap it.

I can't believe how little time I've had to do anything since September. Life is rushing by. I've been reading the same book for four weeks, which is unheard of. All I seem to do is work, eat and sleep. And write sketchy blogs that never see the light of day.

September to December really are the killer months. In fact, looking at last year's blogging, the only time I blogged regularly was when I was at home doing nothing because I'd had major knee surgery. I went to the dentist yesterday who says I need a wisdom tooth out, so there'll be three days of blog action coming up soon, I reckon.

What I want to know is, how do people find the time to write these things every day? And read loads of other ones? And watch telly and go out to gigs and socialise and play sport and read books all at the same time? Sure, I'm generally at work for 12 hours, but I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

Blogs I've started but not finished recently include:

The one about the condition of my knee - my doc says I can play football next month.

The one about my new regime of cycling to work. I've lost some weight and everything.

The one about going to the dentist.

The one about my week-long migraine.

The one about trying to buy electrical goods when I don't have a clue about them.

The one about how salespeople here lie through their teeth - or talk without thinking - when trying to convince me to buy stuff.

I like life to be busy, but I'd like to be able to write more than two blogs in six months. With my schedule over the next few weeks, that doesn't look likely...

So those are my excuses.

Could it be that your life is clearly compartmentalised and when you work you work hard and when you play you play hard - say in a six weekly cycle? It could just be that you are the one with a life and those of us who spend our time fizzing around web sites and watching junk tv are the ones that are missing out! Ma x

Could it be that you spend too long slaving over each word of your blogs, and that's why you don't end up finishing them?

There is a solution of course. Just lie about when things have happened. We'd never know. Call it artistic license.

Congrats on the prospect of footy by the way. Any chance of joining a team over there? Of course, that would mean less time for blogging.

Are you planning to build it up with a spot of tennis?

    *slacker*

    glad your knee is ok.

the reason we have time to read and write these things is that we have "no life". Cherish "having a life", my friend, it is a great gift.

Good news about the knee Mr Mikey, but not so good news about the migraine (bound to be associated with you working too hard!!) and the wisdom tooth.

As for the blogging, well I put my addiction down to the fact that I also keep a diary so I'm used to doing this kind of thing (although I hate keeping a diary I enjoy the blogging - it's more interactive with everyone).

However, I am finding it harder, especially as summer is here. When the weather is nice the last place I want to be, or will be, is online, and if it comes down to being on the beach, running, surfing or swimming, or out socialising, then there can only be one (or is that five?) winner.

Also, I find that blogging is easily the the best way of keeping in touch with everyone. If we had to do it via group emails it just wouldn't be the same.

Right, enough of this, it's time to hot the beach.....

As Lord B says, it sounds like you've got nothing to be worried about, what with having a life outside of blogging and all.

In fact, I now feel strangely inadequate.

Rest assured that what you do write is usually interesting, funny and beautifully phrased.
